ADSL vs VDSL

The main difference between the two types of connections is that VDSL is an advanced version of ADSL and provides faster internet service at shorter distances. VDSL can service up to 100 Mbps depending on infrastructure and proximity to the switchboard, while ADSL can be up to 16 Mbps.

There are separate modems for ADSL and VDSL, but some modems also support both VDSL and ADSL connections.

Finally, while the ADSL can serve an average of 4 to 5 km range from the telephone exchange, VDLS can serve an area of up to 1 km wide.

What is VDSL ?

VDSL (Very High Speed Digital Subscriber Line, has the same working principles as ADSL and uses the same infrastructure. Unlike ADSL, it can provide very high speed internet at short distances (close to the telephone exchanges). However, as the distance increases, the connection speed decreases and after one point it works at the same speed as ADSL.
